re: English Non League Ante Post 08/09
Just listening to a Mansfield fan on Talksports. He's got me thinking about them coming straight back up. Mansfield are a good enough side to do it arent they? 14/1 in Coral and Skybet and as low as 9/1. I will have to read up obviously but i could have an interest bet on them for the season. anyone that follows the conferance leagues have any thoughts on whos gonna win the premier or the other leagues? i'll go see if i can get odds for the ryman leagues etc

Re: English Non League Ante Post 08/09
Firstly komp, I would not touch Mansfield with a bargepole, they are losing players left right and centre.
They are also going through a long period of unrest, the chairman is trying to sell the club but keep the land. They are in debt and have no fans turning up. Add to that teams who get relegated to the conference rarely bounce back up.
Most importantly is all the players they are losing or have lost. Baptiste, Mullins and possibly Boulding all going or have gone.

Re: English Non League Ante Post 08/09
see what a bit of information can do? there was me thinking Mansfield vcould be worth a punt when infact they are not worth a punt. Sounds pretty bleak for them and not somethign a club in their first season of non league football needs. I better go try read up more. I need some non league links. Lets have a look the now.
Tony Kempster's site is always a good place to start i suppose
Tony's Non-League Forum: Main Index
this looks a nice looking site. Lets see if it has much in it
Non League Football Live | Non League Football Vidiprinter | Non League Football forums
Quote:
Liam Watson’s appointment as manager of Southport has been met with widespread approval.
In a stroke of the pen he has solved Southport’s problems.
Everyone at Southport knows they couldn’t have a better man for the job - and he has brought 11 of his best players with him from Burscough.
Those players - Ciaran Kilheeney, Chris Price, Adam Flynn, James Connolly, Tony McMillan, Early Davis, Shaun Gray, Matty McGinn, Alan Moogan, Craig Noone, and Steve Daly - had their first training session at Haig Avenue last night.
How Watson is going to combine his part-time and full-time players will unfold over the coming weeks but the most important thing at the moment is that:
1: Southport have a manager who knows the club inside out, loves the club and intends to stay with the club for the long haul.
2: They have a squad that is capable of mixing it with the best in Blue Square North.
Watson said: “The circumstances behind me returning to Haig Avenue are not what anyone would have wished but we have to be realistic.
“The important thing now is to get the squad together and get ourselves ready for the new season.
“What happens from now on is down to me. Part of the agreement of my return was that I dictate the way of all football matters without interference.
“I am really looking forward to the new season. I am confident we are going to be a major force in Blue Square North.”

ill go look at adding their rss feeds to our news thingy and try and put them all together

Re: English Non League Ante Post 08/09
Komp you probably would find the whole Mansfield story interesting if you had the time, its readily available around the web. Basically there chairman, Mr Haslam got attacked on the last home match of the season, after all sorts of goings on in the boardroom. They are Chesterfields (My club) main rivals and I have to say I wished they would stay up, but by going down they look to be in a real mess. There is talks of a takeover, but there has been for a while and nothing transpired with that one.

i know how he feels jb. I will go and have a look
BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Mansfield
Looks like it should be all sorted out. I wonder why the fans hated him so much. i suppose its the same reason that any fans hate the chairman. Not making money available etc. shame to se them go down. Done me a few favours in their time Mansfield. Anyhow i'll crack on and get myself closer to the day i can actually try and get some mansfield fans in each week.

Re: English Non League Ante Post 08/09
Just having a look in that non league forum for any snippets. Lets have a look
on the Ryman Premier-
Quote:
Not that many teams I see have been making new signings, but noted that Sutton Utd have made around 11! New management as well and no doubt because of their relegation from the conference south last season, they are aiming to go striaght back up,therefore I'd expect them to be strong contenders fro the title. Canvey will be up there, and I feel Horsham and AFC Hornchurch are in with a good chance. Staines Town have a very strong side, although without the Ryman top scorer of last season.I still feel Staines are the best bet though for the league title.
My predictions are: Champions: Staines Town
Play-offs: Sutton Utd,AFC Hornchurch,Dover,Billericay
In trouble: Carshalton,Margate,Tooting & Mitcham,Harrow Boro

Predictions
this on bs north
Who will be champions of the Blue Square North this season??
fella fancies telford and-
Quote:
I think you will have the money and you have an ambitious chairman...i cant see anyone else challenging apart from Southport and possibly Farsley Celtic.
The teams that went down from the prem are Rubbish, although maybe interesting to see if Bully can get some decent players at Stafford.
|
Interestign to see Steve Bull at stafford. Is that THEE steve bull?
and a thread on th bs south
Who will win the Blue Square South next season
and
British Gas Champions 2008/2009?
and this on the British gas Midlands league
Quote:
I think this league has the potential to be the most exciting this season as it contains numerous real local derbies which will play a big impact on who will get promoted.
For me the most interesting derby matches in question are "Fallen from high" Nuneaton, Bedworth and "Newly promoted" Atherstone. Leamington will no doubt view these as local derbies as well
So who's going to win the title?
No reports of newly promoted Soham town, 4th place finishers Sutton Coldfield and Chesham going on a spending spree (correct me if I'm wrong please) Atherstone may suffer the price of non football wranglings affecting their season.
"Play off chokers " Leamington have lost four players including their skipper and leading scorer to a club with half the attendance that Leamington have. The club in question is spend, spend, spend Brackley and a number of other Leamington players have left or not yet resigned as well. Is the Leamington manager paying the price of last seasons rotating door signing on policy. Fans have been advised to bring their boots on the opening day of the season.
So who's going to win the league? The two matches between favorites Nuneaton and Leamington should decide who goes up. Teams that get punished usually come back twice as strong and my prediction is the team at the top of the league table dated 01/01/09 5pm will be league champions. That team will be Nuneaton Town

Re: English Non League Ante Post 08/09
Evening all. arfa here in a new role as the non-leaguer. Not quite sure how that happened but hey???
Ryman Prem will be my thing this year.
As has been mentined on forums far and wide all ante posts markets are not necessarily odds of teams finsihing in that order, so Margate at 50/1 are the bookies rank outsiders for promotion. With a group of youngsters coming through the ranks 50/1 is rather generous. However the managment in place including Terry Yorath and Barry Ashby(ex gills) is quite impressive.
The Rams have lost a couple of influential players in defence.
Staines have sold thier star striker to the Daggers, and why the Horn are 11/2 favourites is worthy of more investigation.
MY team is Dover, so I will probably give you a very very very bias view, however that said winning the division below and strengthening pre-season has given us a good chance.
Must say elsewhere, AFC Telford look a bloody good price...
More soon...

Re: English Non League Ante Post 08/09
With regards to Nuneaton B. I can say with previoous dismay, teams who have been Conf National and have fallen from grace down and downwards usually have financial worries. From recolating deep within my mind, NB are such a team. If they have kept most of there team and signed decent players pre-season they may have a chance. I would not place money on them though. It usually takes a season or two before they will get themselves in order. Maybe a playoff place is likely though for those on each betting.

Promoted sides usually do OK. And Canvey have the support and the history to suggest they should be OK?
Dover and dartford both look like good bets for promotion. Tonbridge had a really good run in last year as well. There should be about 12 clubs in with a chance for a play off place.
Lots of Kent clubs have bought big. Sadly not Margate we look as though we will be relying mostly on sunday league and youth players. Might pull of a few suprises. There certainly are still quite a few tlaented players in the area,as Ramsgate have proved.
